Community Development Committee

New Members Welcome!

The CBT Board of Directors encourages interested individuals from the UNESCO Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Region to sign-up for membership on an Advisory Committee. Participating on these community-based Committees provides residents with an excellent opportunity to network with peers and contribute to a sustainable future for the region.

The Community Development Committee bridges the social and economic sectors to take a holistic perspective on community development.

The Truth about Fundraising Seminar

The Committee provides advice to the CBT Board on project proposals and priorities. The committee meets every 6 - 8 weeks and has broad representation from throughout the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve region. All meetings are opened to the public -- please feel welcome to join us.

The Committee also develops their own projects with staff support. In Spring 2008, the Community Development Committee was excited to sponsor a free fundraising seminar for residents of the Biosphere region. The seminar provided fundraising knowledge and tools to individuals and non-profit organizations with the hope that the skills learned will lead to improved and increased services in our region. The training was free and ran once a month for four months.

Discretionary Funding

The Community Development Committee has an annual budget of $10,000 for discretionary funding of research, education and training projects. Requests are received on an ongoing basis for small projects throughout the region. Proponents are strongly encouraged to attend committee meetings to present their request in order that they are available to answer questions. Although there is no template for applications, all requests should be made in writing to the CBT. The following table lists the Committee's discretionary spending.
