Q: How Can I Participate with the CBT?
A: Join a Committee!
People are always asking us how they can help build a better future for Clayoquot Sound. For local residents, the answer is always participation! We know you have skills, expertises and passion for the area that we’d like to tap into – please consider joining on of our five Advisory Committees!
Advisory Committees meet several times a year and are made up of passionate individuals with expertises or interests in one of the five following areas:
- Marine and Aquatic is committed to raising awareness of marine issues and influencing better decision making;
- Community Development works towards programming that supports community-building;
- Culture brings together First Nation and non-First Nation individuals focused on creating and supporting vibrant cultures on the West Coast;
- Education is interested in both formal and informal education projects that include the development of local capacity; and,
- Terrestrial is keen to support citizen science and projects that include local and traditional ecological knowledge.
Committees make recommendations to the CBT for community based research, education and cultural events. Our committee members strengthen our relationships with the communities and advise on issues of conservation, sustainable development and healthy community goals, priorities and projects.
Committees make a direct contribution to our programming. Each committee has a discretionary budget which they can use to undertake research and support community-based projects in their specific area. Committees are also key players in the annual Call for Projects – members are asked to vet proposals and make funding recommendations to the CBT Board of Directors.
If you’re interested in joining a committee, but unsure – not to worry! All committee meetings are open to the public – we’d love to see you there. Meeting dates, times and agendas are posted on our calendar. Contact our office for more information.
