Join a CBT Committee!

People are always asking us how they can help build a better future for Clayoquot Sound. For local residents, the answer is always participation! We know you have skills, expertise and passion for the area that we’d like to tap into.  Please consider joining one of our four volunteer Advisory Committees.

Advisory Committees meet several times a year and are made up of passionate individuals with expertise or interests in one of the four following areas:

  • Research and Environment is committed to supporting research that informs decision making, citizen science and projects that include local and traditional ecological knowledge;
  • Community Development works towards programming that supports building healthy and vibrant communities;
  • Culture and Events brings together First Nation and non-First Nation individuals focused on creating and supporting vibrant cultures and special events on the west coast;
  • Youth and Education is interested in both formal and informal education projects that include the development of local capacity and projects that support the health and well-being of our region’s youth and;
  • Neighbourhood Small Grant Advisory is a group of active citizens that review applications to our Neighbourhood Small Grants program

Committees make recommendations to the CBT Board of Directors for community-based research, education, and cultural events.  Our committee members strengthen our relationships with the communities and advise on issues of conservation, sustainable development and healthy community goals, priorities and projects.

Committees make a direct contribution to our programming. Each committee (except NSG) has a discretionary budget which they can use to undertake research and support community-based projects in their specific area.  Committees are also key players in the annual Call for Projects – members are asked to vet proposals and make funding recommendations to the CBT Board of Directors.

If you are interested in joining a committee, but unsure – not to worry! Come and check out a committee meeting, they are open to the public and we’d love for you to attend. Meeting dates, times and agendas are posted on our calendar and through our newsletter.  Contact our office for more information.
