Creating a better future through biosphere stewardship, philanthropy and community building

The Clayoquot Biosphere Trust (CBT) is a registered charity based on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada. Established in 2000, CBT is the only organization in Canada that is both a community foundation and a UNESCO biosphere. We pair this spirit of community with the power of a global presence to bring more people together for a shared understanding.

We are one of 1,800 community foundations worldwide implementing United Nations’ goals to reduce poverty, end hunger, ensure quality education, and protect the environment. CBT also oversees the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Region designation, one of Canada’s 19 UNESCO biospheres, and sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Our team works to strengthen the development of all citizens, communities, and the ecosystems on which we all depend, for a future we can all be proud of.

In the spirit of truth, healing and reconciliation,

We acknowledge the territories of hiškʷiiʔatḥ (Hesquiaht First Nation), ʕaaḥuusʔatḥ (Ahousaht), ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ (Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations), Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government (Ucluelet First Nation), and tukʷaaʔatḥ (Toquaht Nation).

2024 Holiday Giving Catalogue

2024 Holiday Giving Catalogue Clayoquot Biosphere Trust

'Tis the season for giving and standing tall as a region! We're honoured to bring back the Holiday Giving Catalogue—an annual collaborative initiative supporting charities working hard to strengthen local communities and ecosystems on the West Coast. This collaboration spotlights the needs of local organizations and funds with 100% of donations supporting their work while we take care of all administration and receipting.

Plus, this year, Pacific Sands Beach Resort will be doubling the power of your generosity by matching all contributions up to $10,000. Every donation counts, and with this incredible matching opportunity, your gift will have an even greater impact. In short, everything starts with community. And through this united, public portal, together we are stronger.

Give before January 1st to support the region and take advantage of 2024 tax credits!

Clayoquot Biosphere Trust

The CBT staff and board are excited to share our recent Annual Report, highlighting CBT grants, programs, and learnings. We would like to express our gratitude to all communities, grantees, and donors with whom we collaborate; as a UNESCO Biosphere and Community Foundation, none of what we do would be possible without your continued support. We also extend thanks to our volunteers for their time and dedication.

2023 Vital Signs Report Clayoquot Biosphere Trust

This document is our fifth Vital Signs report. As such, it provides an opportunity to look back over 10 years to see how, or if, metrics have changed. It is also a valuable tool for understanding progress toward achieving all aspects of sustainability - cultural, social, economic, and environmental.

Vital Signs is a national program led by community foundations and coordinated by the Community Foundations of Canada that leverages community knowledge to measure the vitality of our communities and ecosystems, and supports actions that improve quality of life. The CBT is committed to a long-term monitoring program for the region and its communities, and aims to publish a Vital Signs report every two years.
