Bigg's Killer Whale

Bigg's Killer Whales are transient orca, named for Dr Michael Bigg, a BC marine biologist who pioneered the technique of photo-identification to identify individual killer whales and determined that they live in family groups, or pods.

BKW are mammal eaters. Their prey is seals and sealions, which they hunt cooperatively with their family members. Because they need to be stealthy, their vocalizations are different from fish-eating Northern Resident Killer Whales.
