Pani said: "This past academic year has been incredibly rewarding, filled with personal growth, new opportunities, and meaningful contributions to my campus community. One of the most impactful experiences for me was serving as a Residence Advisor (RA) for the first time. It gave me the chance to support first-year students by sharing the challenges I faced in my own first year and helping them feel more at home in their new environment. I independently organized five RA events focused on cultural exchange, academic support, and community building. In collaboration with my team, we hosted five additional events, including a sustainability-themed planting initiative, a cultural sharing night, and a Truth and Reconciliation event. These experiences allowed me to build strong connections with fellow RAs, SRAs, and many students; relationships I deeply value and hope will last a lifetime.
Academically, I had the exciting opportunity to conduct research through a Directed Studies project. I presented my findings at the Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Conference (MURC), which was a major milestone for me. I am currently working toward publishing my research paper, which is both a challenge and a great source of excitement. In addition, I joined the UBC Persian Club (UBCPC) to reconnect with my cultural roots and contribute to my community. As the current VP External, I am planning inclusive events for both Persian and non-Persian students and working to build relationships with sponsors that will support our programming.
Overall, I am very happy with the balance I achieved this year, both academically and personally. Compared to my previous years, I found more time for self-care and wellness through activities like Longboat Day, gym sessions, and other campus events that kept me active and grounded. Looking ahead to the 2025–2026 academic year, I hope to continue building on this progress and maintaining that balance. I plan to stay involved as both a Residence Advisor and an active member of the UBCPC. My long-term goal of pursuing a career in medicine remains unchanged, and I am grateful to be enjoying the journey and growth along the way.
Receiving the CBT Education Award has had a significant impact on my academic journey. It helped take some of the financial pressure off, allowing me to focus more fully on my studies and passions without constant stress. This support has made it easier for me to engage in academics, research, leadership, and community-building, all things that bring me purpose and joy. Most importantly, it reminded me that my goals are worth pursuing and that I’m not alone in striving for them. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities this award has helped make possible."
