Donor Spotlight: Charles McDiarmid

The Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Centre is one step closer to becoming a reality thanks to the support of donors who believe in the power of community, learning, and stewardship. We're proud to spotlight Charles McDiarmid, owner of the Wickaninnish Inn, whose generosity is helping bring this vision to life. Charles shared: 

For more than 30 years, we've had the privilege of welcoming guests from around the world to experience the extraordinary beauty of Clayoquot Sound. Every day we're reminded that what makes this place truly special isn't just the natural landscape, it's the people, the cultures, the wildlife, and the deep connection between them. Looking after this region means more than caring for a business; it means helping to ensure our communities continue to thrive. 

Giving back has always been an important part of who we are as a local family business. We've been fortunate to support many organizations and initiatives across the region because strong communities, healthy ecosystems, and vibrant cultures all go hand in hand. When our communities flourish, everyone benefits. 

Of all the projects we've supported, the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Centre stands out because of the lasting legacy it will create. It's much more than a building. It will be a place where people gather to learn, share knowledge, celebrate culture, inspire the next generation, and work together to care for this remarkable region. It will welcome residents, First Nations, youth, researchers, community organizations, and visitors alike, helping more people understand both the global significance of this UNESCO Biosphere Region and our shared responsibility to protect it. 

The Biosphere Centre is an investment in people as much as place. It will strengthen education, conservation, reconciliation, research, and community connections for generations to come. We're proud to be part of bringing that vision to life because we believe the future of Clayoquot Sound deserves a place that reflects the extraordinary community and landscape it serves.
